One recommendable option is to open up a bank account with Post Finance.

Student accounts are free of charge (until age 30), including a bank pass and one major credit card. Furthermore, PostFinance does not require a residence permit to open an account. There are many ATMs and branches (post offices) in Zurich and all over Switzerland, which are easily recognizable by their flashy yellow signs. All fundamental bank services are offered, including online banking and a separate savings account ("deposito account") with special interest rates.
